Then there’s all the other amazing benefits too – like that fact it's good for your CV, will give you a fresh perspective, and introduce you to a new culture, with new friends from all over the world.
So, whether you're chasing career growth, cultural deep dives, or looking to learn more about yourself in a safe environment away from home, CIEE has a programme for you. Let’s break down each one so you can see which suits you best.
Camp Exchange –
The real American Camp experience
Who’s it for – Anyone aged 18 to 27 who loves being outdoors, working with kids, and wants a summer packed with energy and fun.
What is it – You’ll work as a Camp Counsellor, Activity Specialist, or Disability Support Counsellor at an American summer camp. Lasting from June through to August, CIEE arranges your placement, visa, and accommodation.
Why do it – It’s rewarding; you’ll have a chance to experience a completely different culture; and you’ll make a camp salary while you’re there, so it’s affordable too. It’s also one of our experiences where friendships form fast, and your meals and accommodation are included.
Internship & Graduate –
For a competitive, professional edge
Who’s it for - University students or recent grads looking to rack up hands-on, career-driving experience with real companies in the United States.
What is it - A US work placement which can be tailored to your field, that will help you build work experience abroad to bolster your CV. CIEE makes the process simple and stress-free, managing the visa process at a truly affordable cost.
Why do it – University summers are long and drawn-out. And there’s pressure to enjoy it but also use these months to better your opportunities for the future. This programme is cultural immersion at its finest – the opportunity to work with international colleagues, but live life for a Summer as a working American. All supported by CIEE.
Trainee – Your chance to level up post-Uni
Who’s it for: Young professionals, more than a year out of University, craving focused career development and global work skills, beyond just an internship.
What is it: This programme offers young professionals a chance to train in the U.S., gain experience, and gain a vital global perspective. For many, it gives them a competitive edge that sets them apart from their peers for years to come.
Why do it – Lots of people leave University and feel a bit lost. This programme gives you change-making opportunity to train in the US, in your field of choice. They can also last up to 12 months, meaning prolonged exposure to working life at the other side of the Atlantic.
Work & Travel - The perfect combination of work and play
Who’s it for: College students, or Uni students who want to earn, explore, and experience American life, without overthinking plans.
What is it: The Summer Work and Travel programme lets you pick a seasonal job in the United States (like working in a café, theme park, or resort) with additional time to travel and see some of the sites. CIEE will help you with the visa application, job access, insurance, guidance, with ‘people on the ground’ support for your time in the US.
Why do it – Much like our other programmes it embeds you in real American life and helps you to see it – not as a tourist – but as a local. Friendships will be made with your new colleagues, who you can then travel and socialise with. The options for work are quite endless and designed to be low stress so that you have time and energy to explore too. And it’s still great for your CV, too.
